This summer we will be continuing to host our Outdoor Performance Series which had its incredibly successful debut last year. On alternating Fridays from HIAC openings watch for our outdoor performance series events, come with the family and relax in our intimate performance space amongst the trees. This year performances range from belly-dancing, to singer-songwriters, folk circles and poetry readings, come out and enjoy some heartwarming entertainment, art, and food from the concession. 2014 Outdoor Performance Series Schedule
All performances are 7-9pm at HIAC
July 11th: Bahira Bellydance Troupe, Nomad world music, Hornby Kids Creative Movement Performance.
The Bahira Bellydance Troupe will be performing, interspersed with the music of Nomad and will be joined throughout the evening by a group of Hornby kids’ dance performances. Bahira was formed in 2005 and have been shimmying together ever since. The dancers all come from diverse dance backgrounds bringing multi fusion belly dance to their performances. They will be joined throughout the evening by the Hornby Kids Creative Movement dancers Angel-Blue, Marin Chapman, Sophie Chapman, Ella McMechan and Emma Nixon who will be performing with Bahira and on their own. The music of the evening will be played by Nomad, a local instrumental world beat group who mainly perform their original compositions, sometimes they will play alone and other times will accompany Bahira and the kids’ dancing!
July 25th: In the Pocket and The Songbirds
In the pocket includes Jill Candlish, Betty Nightingale and Cath Gray, this group shines with their lovely vocals and tasteful backing strings. The Songbirds offer great three-part hormonies, lush guitar and lots of energy! Eclectic mix of upbeat reatro tunes you’ll love to sing along with! The Songbirds are Jodi Laine, Betty Nightingale, Cath Gray, Larry Lingle and Don Geppert. Don’t miss there performance at HIAC, it will be an evening to remember!
August 8th: Folk Circle 2-4pm
The Folk Circle Group are a group of musicians and songwriters here on Hornby Island who meet once a month in the winter to share songs and stories.
The group includes;
Tony Law plays eclectic stringed instruments and sings original songs.
Bee Wolf Ray plays guitar and sings original songs.
Peter Cloud Panjoyah plays hand drum and sings original songs.
Cindy Anderson plays Celtic fiddle and fingerstyle guitar.
King Anderson plays 12 string guitar and sings original songs.
Gary Manzer plays guitar and sings jazz standards.
Jay Sherafat plays violin and middle eastern music on his oud.
