I HEAR YOU is an Elder/ Youth installation opening Friday, August 26th, and will be up until September 11. There will be an opening night with pre-opening talk give by the curator, Gina-Rae Horvath and the participating youth at 6pm. The opening night will begin at 7pm, and end at 9pm.
Come ready to spend and help raise money for HIAC’s New Arts Centre! A Foot in Any Direction if a small works group show featuring many local Hornby Island Artists. The Opening receptions is JULY 28th from 7-9pm at the HIAC Gallery! The show however will be open for view 11-4pm from JULY 26 , to AUGUST 7.
Coming up soon, our first Outdoor Performance of the season! A Kids Open Mic! Sunday, June 28th from 2-4pm. All performers under 15 welcome, come dance, sing, tell jokes, make origami… Show us your talent! Our next Outdoor Performance is Friday August 9th from 7-9pm with the Ken Hatch Trio and Bob Sarti & Joanne Wyvill.
The Ken Hatch Trio consists of Ken Hatch on trumpet, Linda Manzer on acoustic bass and flute, and Gary Manzer on guitar. They play a mixture of romantic ballads, bossa novas and classic jazz. Don’t miss their smooth, tasteful jazzy sound!
Bob Sarti and Joanne Wyvill will be singing and dancing their way through the stage play musical “Yippies in Love,” a play written by Bob himself about the hippie romps of youths in the 60’s.
A new show is hung at HIAC: New works from Ann Newdigate! Her show runs through August 11th, and her opening reception is Sunday the 4th from 1-4pm, an unusual time.
Thank you everyone who came to last night’s bellydance and sitar music performance. What a beautiful evening it was! The highlight was the last set when the dancers improvised to the band. When Jala came in from the woods with her purple wings, she came across a few newbies to Hornby on the path — what an introduction to the island! The set ended with everyone getting up to dance. Thank you, musicians!
Next Friday August 2nd we have Peter Panjoyah and Bee Wolf Ray coming to our stage with their music form 7-9pm. Their music has the foundation and aim of self-realization and revealing. Come enjoy!
