A new show is hung at HIAC: New works from Ann Newdigate! Her show runs through August 11th, and her opening reception is Sunday the 4th from 1-4pm, an unusual time.
Thank you everyone who came to last night’s bellydance and sitar music performance. What a beautiful evening it was! The highlight was the last set when the dancers improvised to the band. When Jala came in from the woods with her purple wings, she came across a few newbies to Hornby on the path — what an introduction to the island! The set ended with everyone getting up to dance. Thank you, musicians!
Next Friday August 2nd we have Peter Panjoyah and Bee Wolf Ray coming to our stage with their music form 7-9pm. Their music has the foundation and aim of self-realization and revealing. Come enjoy!
Our next Outdoor Performance is this Friday the 26th from 7-9pm, with Hornby’s own Bahira Bellydancers and Matt O’Donnell and friends as Raga Riddim. The bellydance troupe is lusciously looking forward to sharing their healing and sensuous movements with their Hornby community! Raga Riddim plays traditional Indian ragas with their own unique flavour. Come be transported to an exotic evening from the East!
The Arts Council is happy to announce our next artist showing in the space: Tara Ireland. The Group show continues until July 14th, and then Tara’s show runs from July 16th-28th, with her opening on Friday July 19th from 7-9pm. We hope you’ll come on by!
Tara’s paintings capture the beaches of Hornby with special attention to the play of light on water at different times of day. The stillness and tenderness in her art holds one’s attention. Come enjoy!
Last night’s opening for the Group Show was a lovely gathering of artists and art appreciators. If you missed it, there is another event happening during this show: our second Outdoor Performance on our new stage! This coming Friday, join us for readings from four Hornby authors: Bernie Friesen, Amanda Hale, Cornelia Hoogland, and Carole Chambers, as well as music from Hornby resident, Tony Law. The last performance was a beautiful evening under the trees. Come join us for another gathering of enjoying art amidst nature!
Our current show is a collection of 34 Hornby Island artists’ work, with the broad theme of “Reality and Perception.” Pieces include photographs, paintings, sculpture, knitting, jewelry, wood work, poetry, and more! Come to the show’s opening this Friday the 5th from 7-9pm and enjoy these artists’ work.
